Awards and Scholarships


In order to recognize those individuals whose achievements promote and exemplify the athletic training profession in Kentucky, KATS solicits nominations for specific awards on an annual basis with the winners being announced at the KATS annual meeting. 

KATS Awards nominations are now open.  Please complete all nomination forms to the awards and scholarship committee from February 15, 2023 until April 15, 2023. Hall of Fame nominations are open from February 15, 2023 until April 1, 2023.  All nominations should be submitted to kyatsawards@gmail.comAward descriptions should be reviewed prior to submitting a nomination for any of the following:

Dr. Philip Hurley Sports Medicine Person of the Year

Award of Merit

College/University Athletic Trainer of the Year

Clinical/Occupational Health Athletic Trainer of the Year

High School Athletic Trainer of the Year

AT Education/Preceptor of the Year

The Tom Simmons Award

Sponsorship Award

Kentucky Athletic Trainers' Society Hall of Fame 





KATS Scholarship Nominations are now open.  Please submit applications to

KATS distributes 4 individual $335 scholarships annually to assist KY athletic training students with the financial costs associated with the national Board of Certification (BOC) Examination.  Qualified applicants must be eligible to sit for BOC exam.  A verification form from the student's program director will be required. The program director will have to verify a student's grade point average and BOC eligibility.  Applicants must also secure one additional recommendation from a professor, coach, or other professional contact who is not related to the applicant and is someone other than the program director.

Scholarship awards will be determined by the KATS Chair of Awards/Scholarships Committee and the 4 Regional Representatives.

NOTE: Previous recipients of a KATS scholarship are not eligible for future scholarship awards.

All applicants will need to complete the scholarship form and submit it to the Chair of the awards and scholarship committee from February 14, 2022 until April 15th, 2022.

Bob Hamilton Scholarship

Named in honor of the first Athletic Trainer at Saint Xavier High School and long-time KATS supporter. Bob’s career included work as a paramedic in Jefferson County and educating Athletic Trainers (students and licensed) on proper emergency procedures. Recipients will have accumulated volunteer service hours in the field of athletic training under the direct supervision of a credentialed Athletic Trainer.

This scholarship is separate from the BOC examination scholarship above and requires completion of the Bob Hamilton Scholarship Application
